In early March the Government launched what could be the biggest review of rail fares in decades. With most commuters getting hit hard in the wallet - and already having to pay the most expensive fares in the whole of Europe - it is time to fight back.
In the run-up to January 2012 the #Farefail coalition ran a high profile campaign to put pressure on the government to stop raising fares. The government backed down due to public pressure and increased fares less than they had wanted. But it was still an increase. And they plan to keep fares going up and up.
Commuters deserve affordable fares – why should so many people pay at least a month’s salary out just to get to work?
The full review is available on the Department for Transport website. If you want to make a submission in response, fill out this quick and easy form and we will print these off and hand in to the Government later on in the Fares Review.
We need to make sure passengers voices are heard – so have you say and demand cheaper rail fares.
If you are wondering about the types of things we are calling for – alongside cheaper fares, such as part time season tickets, fairer advance tickets, a cap on walk-on-fares, fully staffed stations and conductors on trains, then take a look at the Fair Fares Now website and the Together for Transport website.
